Just added the Penhawitz Native American Genealogy Book in Research Books Section~

Have a very Merry Christmas!
I’ve been working non stop on this to get it done by Christmas for everyone~
This research book covers most of the Grand Sachems of Long Island and which I’m a descendant of~
I’ve decided to start with the Penhawitz lineage due to the fact it ties into all the other lines of Grand Sachems and brings the whole story together~

United States has followed the way of the Native American Government~

Native American’s had a government way before the United States was formed – They had a “Grand Sachem” whom governed all tribes – He had Sub Chiefs and War Leaders and such –  individual tribes under him were lead by a Chief – whom he governed all smaller tribes  – The United States has followed the way of the Native American Government – if we look at our city’s mayors they would be Chiefs and each Governor of the state as Sub Chiefs and our Presidency as Grand Sachem you can see where I’m going with this – the more I research my Ancestors the more I see that some of their beliefs and ways of life are still practiced – even in our Government~

With my research I’m find out a lot about ruling of tribes –  One of the tribes I’m working with are of the Turtle Clan~

Wanted to share this

Turtle Clan: Turtle is considered to be the oldest, sacred symbol of the Anishinaabe and Haudenosaunee people. They believed that North America was created on the back of a turtle.  Father Sky’s wife fell through a hole in the sky, and to keep her from drowning little Muskrat managed to bring up a handful of soil from the bottom of the ocean; she placed it on Turtle’s wide back and the land immediately began to grow eventually forming North America.  To this day most Indigenous people refer to North America as Turtle Island. (You might want to take a look at the shape of North America in an Atlas, it look just like a turtle.  The feet are: Alaska, Greenland, B Aha, California and Florida. The tail is South America. Top half of the shell is Canada, bottom half is the continental United States.)  The medicine of turtle is its deliberate and thorough approach to life; Turtle is also courageous because it makes progress only when it sticks its neck out, and moves forward with patient, steady flow to achieve the desired results. The turtle shell, regardless of size, was also used as a calendar, with the thirteen large patterned squares counting out all the full moons of the year. The 28 small squares on the outside counted the days of each lunar month.

Creating a newsletter for one of the tribes I’m working with~

I’ve been helping to design a newsletter for one of the tribes I’m working with the Wiquapaug Eastern Pequot Indian Tribe –  This past week I have been creating the template and setting it all up – deadline is Jan. 1st – believe I have the bases of it done and everyone seems to be happy with it so far – goes out every 4 months for them~ The newsletter is coming along nicely – I have had a lot of fun creating it – Have the format created and only waiting for everything to come in from the tribe to add it to the newsletter~  I have always done newsletters for my group and such over the years so pretty good at creating them – was an honor to do this for them~

I do believe the past couple of weeks I had the flu – all better now and feel like myself again~

your blessing bend my knees in thanksgiving

Note from Coni – this has been a favorite of mine – I love Howard’s Work~
I read it often~ Have a beautiful and wonderful Thanksgivings~

From a Song For Mother Earth by Howard Rainer
 Grandfather,
teach me with the words
of a wise owl,
the wisdom of many winters.
Teach me
the lessons of one
who has walked in balance
and the source of that strength,
Tell me Grandfather,
Who rules the universe ?
and what is the meaning of Mother Earth ?
Teach me,
that I may come to know
The Circle of Understanding
by one connected to the Creator
beyond the clouds….
My spirit wearies
walking in two worlds.
I plant my feet in two faiths,
wanting only peace.
My ears hear words
spoken in two tongues,
neither understanding the other.
Confusion circles my mind,
two cultures clashing with their might,
each demanding my allegiance.
The conflict tears at my heart.
My learning becomes a whirlwind,
teachings swirling in every direction.
Which voice speaks the truth ?
My spirit wearies
walking in two worlds.
Who awaits me at the end ?
Creator God
You sent me in the cradle
of life an Indian,
I give thanks.
Relatives and relations
have blessed my path,
gratitude is for their teachings.
My journey on the Red Road continues;
the fires of friendship burn brightly in four directions.
Creator god, the giver of all life,
I give thanks,
your blessings bend my knees
in thanksgiving

I bought a new computer

…………and it has taken me 3 days to transfer, rearrange & organize all my files (still doing it) I have set up everything to sync to my iPad – so will be much easier to find what I’m looking for – I have to get all the paperwork organized next – got 2 BIG plastic containers full – truly it is stuff for the next generation that I will be doing (late 1600’s to the middle of the 1700’s) I’ve had many send me files and paperwork and such and have kept it all together so that when I come to it in my research I will have it~ I haven’t forgotten you all – just haven’t come to that part yet – I am now working my way to the Narragansett part of it – which is what a lot of you are trying to figure out – just had to get all the bases done 1st – These next few months will be organizing and sorting out all the lineages – in the 1700’s – then I will have questions (most of you will be sick of me when I’m done lol~)

Got a email from Ken Feder 11/19/11:

All,

Well, the good news is that the Forestry folks have been able to remove all of the spray paint from the new sign. I’ve enclosed a photo I just took (Saturday afternoon). Even up close, you can’t see any of the paint. Yay for that. That bad news, and it is as I expected, the paint has not come off of the boulder and 1929 sign. I figured that one would be tougher. Still working on it. Thank you all for your concern for the signage. I’ll be happy when all of the paint has been removed. kfed
